June Wren Admits He Was Near the Burned Garrard Barn-Denies Crime
Captain V G Muliken, after trailing and apprehending June Wren, a white man, who it is charged, burned a tobacco barn belonging to Mr William Nuckols near Paint Lick, returned to Lexington Thursday afternoon. Captain Mulliken was sent for Monday night, when the barn, containing to tobacco to the value of $75 belonging to Mr Nuckols and $800 worth of the weed belonging to Mr Sam Baker, was burned by incendiary. Captain Mulliken's dogs, when placed on the trail at the rear of the barn, where footprints were discovered, followed the officers to a nearby house where Wren is said to have spent Sunday night. From this place the trailled to Mr Nuckols home where wrne was found by the officers. Wren was at once taken to the barn, where his footprints were measured and found to be the same as those found behind the barn. Wren then confessed that he had been back of the barn in the afternoon but denied that he had fired the building. The burned barn and Mr Nuckols Crop of tobacco was insured for $1600. Mr Baker had no insurance

Tobacco Barn Burned
On last Monday night the tobacco barn belonging to Wm Nuckles in the East end, containing about 5,000 pounds of tobacco belonging yo Sam Baker, was destroyed by fire. Blood hounds were gotten a few hours later and trailed directly to June Wren, who was arrested and lodged in jail here charged with the deed. We hear that the barn was insured, but none was on Baker's tobacco. Wren protests his innocense. Particulars will be given after examining trial. This is not a case of night riders.
