Boy And Girl Are Hold For Many Thefts
Jeanette Rust, 13, and Brother Harry, 9 are Arresyed in Possession of Stolen Jewelry
***********************
Asked For Magazines, Rifled Houses, Charge

Officers Expect to Recover Articles Taken From Numerous Houses
*************************************************
Lexington's youngest buglars were apprehended yesterday afternoon with the arrest of Jeanette Rust, 13 years old and her brother, Harry Rust, 9 years old, children of Harry C Rust of 343 Ross Ave on the charge of house breaking. They were placed in the detention home. For some weeks, the police sayk they have been receiving complaints from different neighborhoods of stolen or missing property, usually small articles like watches, jewelry, and Bick-a-brac. Detectives went to work to obtain some of the facts about the thefts. At one or two places where things had been taken, the owners mentioned that two small children had been at their houses the days the articles were missed. In each case the description of the children was about the same. The detectives discovered several days ago the children that they thought answered the description. Yesterday when a new complaint was received Detective Joe Grant arrested the children on suspicion and found a watch lavaller and other missing articles in their possession. The method by which the children carried on their work was rather ingenous for their age. Approaching a house they would meekly ask for some old magazines with pretty pictures in them. In many homes the lady of the house would tell the children to be seated while she went to get some old papers for them. When she disappeared the young investigators would take a look over the property in sight and select what appealed to them.. From the stories told the detectives it appears that the magazine request was used at times. Many of the articles reported stolen were taken during the absence of the pwners. If no one was at home the brother and sister would enter and look things over, selecting usually watches or jewelry. The officers expect to recover much of the missing property by making the children tell where they have it hidden or how they disposed of it. An older brother is at the Greendale Reform School, according to the police, and another has been in the house of detention for the last three weeks. The officers did not know what offenses the two boys had committed.
