Charles Humes to Spottswood Nuckolds
This indenture made this 6th day of July in the year of our Lord o ne thousand eight hundred and forty between Charles Humes of one part a nd Spotts ______ the other part both of the County of Grainger and sta te of Tennessee, witnesseth that _______ Charles Humes for and in consider ation of the sum of three hundred dollars to him ______ a receipt of whi ch is hereby acknowledged has bargained and sold by these _______ both gra nt, bargain and sell alien enfoff? And confirm unto the said Spotswood __ ______ a line tract or parcel of land by ___ and being in the county and s tate aforesaid ______ was the end of the _________ mountain on the wate rs of Richland River bounded and described as follows, to wit, beginni ng at the hickory and ash one rod east of the spring branch ___ Betsy a nd Margaret Humes in a line of a tract formerly belonging to Matthew Campb ell ___ by him conveyed to J P Chase___ running east with said line seven ty-two poles to ____ and said line was same marked Hickory bushes and co me to a tract lately ___ for then with a line of the last mentioned tra ct north one hundred and fifty-four poles to a fallen down cherry tree wi th chestnut and dogwood pointers, corner to a twelve ____ to Alexander Hu mes, then west thirty-eight poles to a chestnut oak and pine on ____, th en south fifty-one poles to a stake near a branch, then west fifty-four po les to a stake in a branch corner of a dividing line made by said Alexand er Humes between Charles Humes and Margaret and Betsy Humes, the last ment ioned being the dividing line then with the various meanders of said bran ch to the beginning containing seventy acres more or less with all and sin gular to have and to hold the same. The said Charles Humes does covenant a nd warrant the title to the above described tract of land with the apperte nances unto Spotswood Nuckolds and to his heirs against the claim of all p ersons whatsoever in the equity. Spottswood Nuckolds to S J Shields
This indenture made this twelfth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-one between Spottswood Nuckol ls of one part and Samuel and Milton Shields of the other part all of the county of Grainger and state of Tennessee, witnesseth that the said Spottswood Nuckolls for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars to him paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged and s old and by these presents doth grant , bargain and sell ___ien --noff a nd confirm unto the mountain on the waters of Richland Creek bounded and d escribed as follows , to wit, "Beginning at the hickory and ash one rod ea st of the spring branch between Betsy and Margaret Humes on a line of a tr act of land formerly belonging to Matthew Campbell and by him convey ed to J P Chase_____ running east with said line seventy-two poles to a st ake on said line near some marked hickory bushes and comes to a tract tota lly opwned by John Rintfro Jr , then with a line of the last mentioned tra ct north one hundred and fifty-four poles to a fallen down cherry tree wi th chestnut and dogwood pointers , corner to a twelve acre survey granted to Alexander Humes then west thirty-eight poles to a chestnut o ak on a ridge, then south fifty-one poles to a stake near a branch, then w est fifty-four poles to a stake in a branch corner of a dividing line ma de by said Alexander Humes between Charles Humes and Margaret and Betsy Hu mes, the last mentioned being the dividing line then with the various mean ders of said branch to the beginning containing seventy acres more or le ss with all and singular to have and to hold the same with the hinditamen ts and appertenances unto the said Samuel and Milton Shields their heirs a nd assigns forever and the said Spottswood Nuckolls does not covenant a nd agree to warrant the title to the before described tract of land with i ts appertenances unto the said Samuel and Milton Shields this ____ again st the claim of all persons whatever either in law or equity.
