Graveside services for Doyle Lyndell "Doc" Knuckles of Dove Creek wi ll be held
at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at Peel Cemetery. Pastor Jimmie C arter will
officiate. There will be a visitation Friday, Oct. 12, from 9 a .m. until 5 p.m.
and Saturday, October 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ert el Memorial Chapel.Doc
was born to William Thomas and Mary Etta (Martin) K nuckles on March 2, 1917 in
Reynolds County, Mo. He passed away Tuesday, O ct. 9, 2001 at the Valley Inn
Nursing Home in Mancos. Doc was 84.On Apr il 14,1938 Doc married his sweetheart
Eva Wilson in Monticello, Utah. Toge ther they farmed and ranched in Dove Creek.
Doc was a passionate rancher w ho loved to watch his white- faced cattle. A
lover of the outdoors, He enj oyed hunting and fishing. Doc was also very fond
of reading.Surviving D oc are his wife, Eva Knuckles of Dove Creek; his
children, William Thom as (Beverly) Knuckles of Egnar; Mary (Harry) Geisinger of
Cortez; Frank ie (Arveta) Knuckles of Dove Creek; Ronny D. (Betty) Knuckles of
the Disap pointment Valley area; Patricia D. (Gary) Ives of Cortez; his
siblings, Go ldie McNeely and Sylvia Church, both of Grand Junction, Colo.; and
14 gran dchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his
parent s; his daughter, Cordia Jane Knuckles; and his grandchildren, Denny
Geisin ger and Verna D. Morgan.Memorial contributions can be made in Doc's name
w ith the Dove Creek Ambulance Fund

Cefus Leonard Knuckles, son of Lorenzie and Sarah Knuckles, was born in Reynolds

union four children were born, Leonard of Trenton, Fla., and Essie Radford of
Imperial, and Phillip Dale and Phillis Gail who died in infancy. His wife

Hazel Alta Lawther, 92, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on September 2, 200 4. She
was born July 2, 1912 in Springfield, Missouri to Anna Belle Tri pp and John
Pinkney Knuckles. Hazel grew up in St. Louis where she met a nd married Thomas
Edward Bryant. Hazel and Ed had two children, Sheryl How ell and Linda
Lewis-O'Toole. Hazel worked in many capacities during her li fe. She worked for
the U.S. Government and served as the Delores County Tr easurer for several
years. Hazel was widowed in 1962 and in June, 1970, ma rried her best friend and
companion, Robert E. Lawther. Hazel is surviv ed by her husband of 34 years,
Robert E. Lawther, daughters Sheryl Howel l, Linda Lewis-O'Toole, Betty Brown,
Judy Lish and sister Earlene Harri s. Hazel and Robert have 18 grandchildren and
29 great-grandchildren. Haz el and Robert served a mission for the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-d ay Saints in the London, England Temple. She enjoyed
expressing her artist ic abilities by painting beautiful portraits, and most
importantly, lov ed spending quality time with her family and loved ones. Hazel
was a compa ssionate woman who lived her life serving God, and although she is
gone fr om our sight, will never be forgotten. All that we are or can be we o we
to our mom. Visitation will be Monday, September 6, 2004, from 5:00-7: 00 PM at
Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa. Funeral servi ces will be
Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at 10:00 AM at the Fraser Ward, 9 33 E. Brown Road,

Mr and Mrs Raymond Sego and Mr and Mrs Roy Brown left this morning (Frida y) for
Dove Creek where they will attend the funeral of Mrs Sego's broth er Clyde
Wilson and Jefferson Day Knuckles. Both men were killed in a c ar accident
earlier this week. Mrs Wilson and Mrs Knuckles are in critic al condition. Both
couples have many friends and relatives in the Nucla a nd Naturita area.

Graveside services for Imo E. Lowe, a longtime resident of this area, wi ll be
held Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at the Peel Cemetery beginning at 11 a. m. James
Sanders will officiate. Mrs. Lowe passed away at the Vista Gran de Nursing Home
on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at the age of 89. She was born t he second child of
Jefferson Davis Knuckles and Clara Catherine Ann (Buffi ngton) Knuckles on Aug.
21, 1910, in Ellington, Mo.Imo married James Geor ge Lowe in Waterloo, Ill., on
Nov. 11, 1933. From this union two childre n, James and Susan, were born.Imo and
Jim moved to Cortez in 1946 to he lp Imo's parents run the Navajo Campground.
They later moved to Dove Cre ek where they owned and operated the Frontier Bar
and Restaurant. 1955 fou nd the Lowes moving to Dolores to run the Dolores
Hogan, now known as t he Rio Grande Southern Bed and Breakfast. Imo and Jim
accepted the positi on of Jailer and Matron for the Cortez City Jail in 1961,
remaining at th is job for 15 years. After that time, Imo also worked at the
Cortez Addict ions Recovery Unit and at the Goldtop Pool Hall.Imo is remembered
as a lov ing, happy and caring person. She could always laugh even in the mid st
of trying times. Her family and friends were the joy of her life. On De c. 1,
1954, Imo, her mother, and six of Imo's sisters all joined the Ord er of Eastern
Star. This was a momentous occasion for them all.Preceding I mo in death were
here husband, James Lowe, in August, 1995; her daughte r, Susan Axtell; her
parents; and her grandson, Steven Axtell.She is survi ved by her son, James C.
Cooper, of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren, C ooper, Kim, Kristy, Marty, and
Misty, and seven great-grandchildren; by h er sisters, Maude Evans and Bertha
Brewer, both of the Cortez area, Lou ie Randolph, Irene Randolph, Ruth Saunders,
and Maxine Sanders, all of t he Dove Creek, Egnar area; and numerous nieces and
nephews.Ertel Funeral H ome will be in charge of the services.
Imogene married James George Lowe 18 Nov 1933 in Monore Co, Waterloo, IL. James died in Aug 1995.
