Before joining the service, worked on the railroad laying ties, where he lost part of his finger. His only sons says that he was never an officer. He was a high ranking enlisted man.
Robert (Lee) Nuckolls. He was our fathers older brother who disappeared long before their mother S. Jane died. In the family stories I recorded is that he left home and never returned
